〔Caesarea〕 or Also Caesarea Pal.e.sti.nae [păl'ĭ-stīʹnē] An ancient seaport of Palestine south of present-day Haifa, Israel. It was founded (30b.c. ) by Herod the Great and later became the capital of Roman Judea.
